Advertisers pull back from Twitter amid 'uncertainty' over Musk

Some advertisers are pulling back from buying promotional placements on Twitter as they determine what the site will look like under new owner Elon Musk. In a statement to NBC News, Omnicom, the world's second -largest agency by revenue, said that even as it remained in close contact with Twitter to determine any changes in the site's operations, "uncertainty of this kind raises concerns among advertisers." The company said it would continue to provide guidance to clients so they can make informed decisions. Meanwhile, a source familiar with the thinking of Interpublic Group's Mediabrand advertising agency unit said it had advised its clients to halt spending on Twitter for at least one week to assess any new changes in the site's direction. Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, tweeted and deleted an unfounded anti-LGBTQ conspiracy theory Sunday morning about the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband from a website that has a history of publishing false information. Musk responded to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she tweeted out a Los Angeles Times story about how David DePape, the suspect in the attack on Paul Pelosi, had spread far-right conspiracy theories. Clinton tweeted the link to that story along with the message: "The Republican Party and its mouthpieces now regularly spread hate and deranged conspiracy theories . It is shocking, but not surprising, that violence is the result. As citizens, we must hold them accountable for their words and the actions that follow."
